The Tyee

Named after an energetic BC fish that puts up a good fight, The Tyee was established by bolshie former Vancouver Sun employees who were laid off when Izzy Asper took over the major Southam papers across Canada.

The Tyee has established itself as a solid, reliable and interesting news source that is read by all the major BC media players.

I understand that it got off the ground with a dollop of union money, and that this whack of cash may be coming to an end. (Sorry, I can’t reveal my sources…). It will be interesting to see if The Tyee can survive.

I hope it does: we need more independent media in BC.
